This is known as the Coopersville & Marne Railroad. It's a small line that runs between the two towns on about a six mile stretch of track. Coopersville has a population of about 3900, while Marne is probably around 250, so I really have NO idea what they would be taking from one town to the other in these boxcars. I think they just wanted an excuse to drive the train on this beautiful sunny morning.

Small town freight train at its finest!

Yes, and judging from how clean it was, I'd say it's pretty new...or they don't use it that much (probably the latter).

It looks like a GE 44-ton switcher. If so, they were built between 1942 (the year I was built) and 1956.

Wow! They definitely keep it looking new. Thanks for the info. The railroad is their pride in this small town, so I don't think there is any shortage of volunteers to keep things in good shape.

However, they DO need some work on this old rust bucket. It's been sitting in the same spot for quite some time, but I'm sure the good people of Coopersville will get this baby looking good before too long.

They were a fairly common engine but I've only seen a small handful that have been restored and/or running around doing work. That one looks fantastic!

Here's a close up (75% crop). Ugh...I should have used the 50mm.

Went for a ride on the Swanage Railway in Dorset (UK) today, I was quite pleased with this one, although I wish the grey 'box' in the bottom LH corner wasn't there.

This is ex British Railways class 4MT 2-6-4 No. 80078 running round it's coaches at Norden, near Corfe Castle.

Taken with my Canon 28-105 @50mm. unfortunately the quality of the image has suffered in resizing for web (100k)

These are all great shots, but Kevin, yours just catches my fancy. I wouldn't worry about the grey box. It's pretty hard to get an action shot without some sort of clutter.

Thanks Belmondo, Yes I must admit that when I saw it I thought 'Yes!'
I think the highlights on top the loco are a little 'burnt out', but the whole scene seems to work, for me at least.

I had such an enjoyable day out yesterday, and decided I needed a bit more 'reach' on my 28-105 so have just ordered the Canon 24-105L IS this morning - It should be here tomorrow :-) Not sure what to do with the 28-105 now though...

Nice shot! I agree with belmondo...although I might be tempted to photoshop the gray box out (or crop the photo tighter). However, it's all a part of the RR scene, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You lucky dog! I'll take that other lens off your hands if you feel like donating!!
