Highest point on the old AT&SF Ry. It's a place called Reardon. 7889 ft. (or so - listing changed as it is surveyed and re-surveyed and the track is raised and or underplowed! LOL!!) Notice the I-40 freeway overpass. Cold here when this was taken! Photo was taken in October of '98.

Kind of a non issue today. The BNSF has in cab video - live view - so that Dispatchers can "see" out the front of engines as well as GPS locators and real time "black box" monitoring of every single control point on trains today. Speed, braking (train brakes as well as DB and engine brakes), horn, bell, sanders, lights, virtual location GPS for track conditions or speed (curvature or restriction) along with engine functions (how many engines ON or OFF line as well as tractive effort. When an incident occurs - "they" know what happened before you do.

Photographs (common sense) are good for almost every aspect of railroading. Since the railroads themselves place operating cameras inside the locomotive cabs don't you think it might be just a little difficult for them to then attempt to discipline employees for following their example?

But then again any railroader knows that rules only exist for discipline - especially the ones that leave their meanings open to interpretation. LOL!!

FRA cracked down a lot after the 2008 Chatsworth Metrolink/UP collision, particularly on cell phone use. It has everything to do with "distracted driving."

Even the museum I volunteer at now requires cell phones be turned off and stowed while on duty. Nothing else runs on our line, but we still have to adhere to all FRA rules.

I would think if it runs on tracks, it qualifies. There have been a number of museum pictures posted here. That's where most of my shots come from because I volunteer at one.

Caught this one this evening in the Stone's River Battlefield. 7 locomotives...most I've seen so far in these parts.

Hey Sam, I was taking some pictures of the CSX yard in Tullahoma just last weekend. If you see somebody else out taking train pics, come say hi, might be me!

My 5 year old son is a big train fan. One of his favorites is the Southern Pacific Daylight 4449. This last July we were able to fly up to Portland and ride the 4449 round trip from Portland OR to Wishram WA. It was an incredible experience.

It's amazing to see these engines up close and in person. They are huge.

We were late getting to the station so this was actually our first sight of the engine.

Now he wants to go on the Union Pacific 844. He won't have to twist my arm too much. :)

If the Mayans taught us anything, its if you don't finish something its not the end of the world.

Interesting shots, Melody. Kinda like that "hiding" one. Very unique.

Krish, looks like a great trip! That's the great thing about kids...they make it ok to do all kinds of stuff, 'cause we're doing it "for the kids."

Cloudy this afternoon, but took a few anyway. Here's one up close and personal.

Thanks! It was really cloudy, windy, and chilly out today. I was hoping for the other train to come through and get some pics of both of them, but I was getting too cold to wait any longer. And of course, as soon as I got back in the house the setting sun broke through and lit that train up with a gorgeous golden light. But oh well, there will be more trains.

I like getting the up close and personal pics too.
