I do when I know who the engineer is and if hes a cool guy. The rule doesn't just apply to the Class 1 railroads, but to all railroads that operate on part of the national rail network. I volunteer at a museum in San Diego County, CA and because we operate on a line connected to the rest of the nationwide system, all the same rules apply to us as well. John

He had 40 years total in the RR industry mostly a frieght conductor. I have many items of his from the RR. Charles

Here two GP16's from 1951 and 1952 lead a short train near Clarksville, TN. These units look better than they did when they were brand new! This is "Bittern", now running as she would have looked in the late 1930s when almost new. I think she looks great. She was due at my chosen location at 1928 local, which would have had a nice low sunlight on the side I chose. Sadly it didn't work out, as she was 50 minutes late and came by some time after sunset. I moved to the nearby station to use the station lights to give me some help, but I still needed to go all the way to ISO 25600 on the 5DII to get a reasonable shutter speed. It's still a bit grainy, but I like the atmosphere of the shot. Mark.

The Grain plays well with old locos and especially that colorful streamlined steamer, it looks like early color (colour) film of that time period would look. Or even a pointilism style painting. Be proud of that shot! Lots of other good shots on this page too of course. I'm not that good at removing items like the no parking sign on the right side. May try and do that in the near future. I took out the No Parking sign with Photoshop CS5, and it turned out really well using just the cloning too. I won't post it since you haven't given authorization, but for just a couple minutes work, you can easily eliminate that one distracting element. I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
