Thanks guys!

I'll see what others I can dig up too. I can't believe I got unsubscribed from this thread somehow.

Todd,

I also love those pictures!! My dad was a railroader starting out with NYC then retiring from PennCentral in 1975 as a brakeman/conductor of freight trains. He would occasionally take me to the rail yards with him. Those were fun times! There was one trip he had on the RR he thought would only be a 2-3 hour run, but turned into an all nighter that he took me and my brother on. That was also fun to get to ride in the ..... oh what are they called? The rr's don't use them anymore.... oh yea a caboose! I sure miss seeing those at the end of a train. For a very short period of time before I was born he was a conductor on a passenger train with NYC, and I have his full uniform :)

Thanks Charles. Yeah, such an iconic part of trains and yet, within a few years nobody will know what they are or what they were for.

A PRR GG1 locomotive rusting away in a museum yard.......

A new quarter roundhouse is under construction in the background to get some of these treasures out of the weather.

This is the 'Scarlet Lady' saloon car at Pioneertown, Ca. It was burnt out in a fire a few years ago and the shell is all that remains.

These were taken at the weekend at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough (UK) heritage railway, it was their gala day, it is only small railway but it is local.

A view of the platform between trains (note this was all rebuilt by the volunteers)
