My cameras use both CF & SD cards.
I have around 120GB total. Probably 60% CF 40% SD.

I'm tempted to buy some more when it goes on sale, but have never used more than half of it even when traveling.
As a former user of film, I am more disciplined with my "spray and pray" shooting even when shooting sports & wildlife.

How much do you need?

I have about the same, split over both formats (mostly CF), thing is, if you scaled it down and just took a couple you know what would happen!

I've got a week in Scotland next week, hopefully with sea eagles, sea otters and seals, I'd be most unimpressed if I ran put of memory.

I find 32gb is a good balance for me. I have never maxed one out but continously use more than 16gb. I have a 32 main and a 32 backup.

Right now SD for my cameras.

16gb is plenty for my use, per card. I always pic up a couple of cards when there is a killer deal Black Friday or some promotion once a year, then rotate the oldest cards to personal use only.

I have 16GB cards in my EOS M (SD) and 5D Mark III (CF) plus my 5D3 also has a 32GB SD card that was bundled with it when I bought it. 16GB alone is more than enough for my needs.

Come to think of it I think I had 16 & 8GB CF cards that I used in my 1D Mark II. I forget what the SD card I keep in it is... not very big but I have used one of those fold-in-half Sandisk ones with a built in USB plug.

I use mainly 32GB CF's in my 5DIII (I have two, and a few smaller ones as well), and a 16GB SD for simultaneous JPEG back-ups.

More often than not, I leave the cards in camera, and just reformat after backing up.

I have all SDHC. One 16GB for each body, and 3 4GB backup/spares. I've never filled a 16GB card in one shoot. But then again, I do sports in JPG to keep my buffer as empty as possible.

Bodies: 60D, 6D.

I would not have a body that only does SD. You can ready the test reports of different bodies and cards below. In my 7D I use Lexar 600x 32GB. In my 5DIII I use Lexar 1000x 32GB. The 5DIII can do UDMA 7 writing which is faster. I use a Lexar dual slot USB 3 reader. Never had a problem with a Lexar card or reader.

I have 3 16GB SD cards, 1 8GB SD card and 1 32GB SD card. Plenty of data on hand, but kind of a pain since I'm shooting with 3 cameras now... probably going to pickup a WiFi SD card in the near future.

I have two Sandisk extreme III 4G cards, with a 1G card for emergencies.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I have a 5DIII and only use CF. I have 56 GB total.

I have three Sandisk Extreme III (30MB/sec) 8 GB cards that I've had longer than the camera. I shoot a lot indoors with flash so the slower speed of the cards isn't a problem. The smaller size is also nice so Lightroom doesn't have to thumbnail too many older pictures to get to the new ones.

My newest card is a Lexar 1000x 32 GB. I got this for outdoor action stuff.

I have mostly 16 GB cards. That always seemed enough until I updated the firmware in my 1DX. The file size was 29 GB. So I bought a 32 GB card. But that is probably larger than I will need for normal shooting. I would rather have several smaller cards in the event one fails during a trip. That way I avoid having all of my eggs in one basket so to speak.

LOL, when I went from film to digital it took a while overcome my compulsion to conserve.

I think it depends on how long you're going to be away from a computer where you can download your shots, what subject you're shooting, and whether or not you like taking movies.

I'm not a fan of movie taking, and shoot mostly wildlife and birds and always return home to the computer after a session. I get by with a pair of 16 gig cards. I've never come close to running short.
