Here's some selects from my second game of the season. The Vols won in the bottom of the 9th off a throwing error against#29 UNLV, clinching the weekend series. These were shot with a 400/2.8. I tried a second base remote for slides and double plays, but messed up the focus... oh well.

Great shots Andrew, curious as to how you had the remote camera set up for 2nd base, that would be cool to consider

Thanks Drew.

I'm going to try a remote for each game I cover, if I can. Pointing at 2nd base from the 1st base side is very common. You can also get some cool stuff from ground level pointing at 1st base for pickoff dives, or pointing low at 3rd base for slides. You could also point at the dugout for celebration or coach shots. Lots of possibilities.

Regardless of location, I usually use a magic arm to mount onto railing, or a floor plate mount on top of the dugout or in the media box. I usually trigger them with pocketwizards, but I've also used cheap Chinese triggers as well (the Pixel brand triggers on ebay aren't bad). For remotes in the media box, you can use a long cable release. I've seen people modify these to use a small button switch that can be taped on the camera/lens you're using, or a foot pedal switch to trigger the remote camera.

As far as settings, stop down and turn off autofocus on the lens. Manually set focus... live view comes in handy for this. Use safety cables if you're mounting to railing, and make sure the camera/mount won't interfere with anybody, especially the players. Give yourself time to set them up too. I was in a rush today, and didn't get a chance to test focus (I usually use warm-ups to test my remotes). I may have bumped the focus ring too... a little bit of gaff tape on the focus ring can prevent this from happening.

If you have any specific questions about remotes, let me know.

I went mainly as a fan today, but decided to try composting since I've never really done it before. It came out OK, but I want to get one of our lefties from the other side since the background could be more interesting.

I finally got to make another baseball game, the first game of a 3 game series between McNeese State and Oral Roberts.

I wish I had a lens with more reach than my old Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS, version I, as I'm having to crop images too much. It looks to me that it is affecting the quality of the images. Here are a few shots. Critiques are welcome, also.

A few shots from this past Saturday. I was playing with a Canon 2X externder III paired with my Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS version 1. The photo with the ball coming off the bat was what ended up being the winning two run homer. I was losing light late in the game and with that extender on I was down to a shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, thus the blurred bat and ball. I wish I had bumped up the ISO more and kept the shutter speed up.

I played with the third photo because the red sign on the wall was distracting and ended up with following. I wish I could have gotten the ball going into the glove. :(

What do you think?
