You've got to be able to afford the nifty fifty so make that three lens.

For purly still photo work I would go fast 35 and 85, this is the combonation I almost always carry and it covers pretty much everythung I shoot. For only video work id go 24-105L and a fast 35 or 50.

If I were limited to two lenses total, I'd ditch all my SLR equipment and get an SX50HS.

why not just keep the 17-50 tamron just for use on the 7D, and then get a 24-105mm/24-70mm to pair with the 6D, and use your 70-200mm on both?

It's a flawed question IMHO. An answer of 200-400 f/4 1.4X or a 600mm f/4 are perfectly valid but dodge the point of your question.

I think the common answer you'll find is a 24-70 & 70-200 f/2.8 II pair, but at that price, you could build quite a kit using more than 2 lenses. I'd ask the question "for X$ worth of lenses, what kit would you build?

Possibly this.

Or this - the 28-300mm L IS and 100L.

But in reality, one of the reasons I have a dSLR is so I don't have to limit myself one or two lenses if I don't want to. Oh, and I don't want to.

Lots of good responses thanks, 24mm & 35mm primes are proving quite popular, I'll look at the prices here in New Zealand

I read the question as the OP asking for 1 lens to go with the 70-200. Could the OP clarify this is the case or they are seeking 2 lenses in addition to the 70-200?

Sorry - I should clarify, I'm really asking two questions
1: IF you owned 2 bodies a FF and a Crop what 2 lenses would You want to own
2: What lens should I buy to compliment my 6d,7d & 70-200

Yep you're not wrong (I just borrow my mothers nifty right now)

I'm not that happy with it, auto focus is slow and edge clarity & vignetting is bad

I hear what you're saying but I already own the 70-200 and I live it, now I just want to fill the void of the 17-50 which doesn't work on the FF

If you already own the 70-200 f/2.8 II, then there's not really much of a question on what to pair with it, get a 24-70 f/2.8!
