Maximum softbox size for one speedlight

What is the maximum size softbox, octabox one should use with the use of only one speedlight like a 580 Ex ii or 600 EX-RT?

No, I did not find my answer before I asked for the thread to be deleted but I also did not search the forum more than a basic search before I posted and I should have. I actually have gone a different route in my lighting needs but if there are folks that can answer my original question I would still like to hear what is to be said.

To be honest, I don't think there is a simple answer.

I've probably read too much on the lighting forum over the last 12 months or so, and this is one of the issues I've paid particular attention to. IMO much over 24" x 36" or maybe 30" x 30" is going to start to push past the maximum, but the depth of the box has a huge impact on whether the light fills the box evenly. The bigger the front of the box, the deeper it must be to allow the light to spread evenly and avoid a hotspot in the center.

Other folks will tell you differently.
