Timelapse restrictions

Hi everyone, I was wondering why the timelapse of the G3 is so restricted? I mean, 1 minute intervals is just too much for me. Let alone 60 minutes.. I would rather like it to interval at -seconds- instead of minutes.

Also, the max amount of pictures that can be taken with interval mode is also waayy too few. 100 max. =P c'mon. That's like 4 seconds when put together as a movie. (@25fps)

So, why has this camera these limitations?? Just doesn't make sense to me, everything else is top notch (well, I do have a little gripe with movie mode, but that -really- is a bonus feature to have =)

Could someone explain it to me? Or maybe someone at Canon could push for a firmware to expand the intervalometer functionality? *hope hope*

Marcel. =)

I think you may be mistaken about the 1 minute minimum interval.
I have been able to set it to 30 seconds with no problem. I think it can be set to as few seconds as you want.

As for the maximum number of pictures, that is determined by the capacity of your flash card or hard drive.
If you opt to have the pictures stored on the hard drive and not the flash card, you should be able to store plenty of shots.

Um, I think that's with the software supplied.. 'Remote shooting', iirc.

What I mean is the interval settings of the camera itself. Being restricted by a 2M cable to the computer doesn't allow me to make the timelapse movies I want.

MPaans,

I stand corrected; sort of.

You are correct about the 1 minute minimum interval for the camera setting.

You still have the software option for using a shorter interval.

As for the short cable, just get a longer cable.
All the major computer/office supply stores (Staples, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) sell extension USB cables up to 10 feet long.

If you need something longer you can find them on the web.

I've strung together a 40 foot length of cables to reach my backyard garden.

As far as I know, 10M (30ft) is the longest possible connection for USB.. I'm not sure, tho.. anyway, that still wouldn't suffice for me.. Unless I knock out a window, or drill a hole through the wall..

I know this is an old thread, but what is the software option mentioned? My remote capture software doesn't seem to have any intervalometer settings, or are they doing it manually?
Thanks.
