Which UWA Lens to 70D?

Hello everyone

I will soon have lenses for all the different areas I photograph but it made ​​a lens for landscape photography. I have looked at the Sigma EX 10-20/4 0.0-5, 6 DC HSM and Samyang MF 14/2, 8 ED AS IF UMC.

Both lenses have the same price (new from store). I am aware that the Samyang is manual and does not send any information to the camera, but it is also much sharper at both low and large aperture.

Someone who has more experience of these two lenses?

I don't have experience with those two lenses but you should also consider the Canon 10-22. It's probably one of Canon's best lenses for a crop camera. YMMV

It's too expensive

It depends if 14mm is wide enough for you or if you need f2.8.

I have seen many great things about the 14mm f2.8 on FF cameras but when I need an Ultra wide I like something a little wider. The sigma 10-20 is a great lens as well. It is wider and has more range, but is slower then the 14mm.

Samyang announced a 10mm f2.8 but no word on a release date, or price, as of yet.

If you're patient enough, you can find the Canon 10-22 for a reasonable price.

It can be nice to have AF too, I'm worried about the small apertures (f/11-16) it's soft at the widest length (10mm)

Just go on eBay and get a 2nd hand Canon 10-22.

If after a few months you no longer want it, then sell it on eBay... you'll get your money back.

Not that I've noticed. There's lots of people really happy with that lens including myself. It's not as sharp as the Samyang. Only you can decide if the extra sharpness and f2.8 is worth the loss of zoom and AF. If you are stuck at 14mm on the Samyang it makes no sense to compare the 10-20 at 10mm. You need to compare it at 14mm.

What size prints will you be making where you are worried that the difference will show up? Are you just reading MTF charts that say that the Samyang is X amount sharper?

I usually do prints in 30x40 and 50x70

the 14mm is more of a FF lens in my mind...i certainly wouldn't give up my 10-20mm for it...also in my opinion the canon really doesn't seem to be worth the extra money if you plan on stopping the lens down anyways

Just sold my Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 because I'm moving to FF. One of my absolute favorite lenses. Never had any issues with sharpness. Color and contrast were great. Stopped down it's a beast.

Okay then I think I've done my decision on the Sigma

Canon 10-22
Sigma 10-20
Tokina 11-16

Why on earth would you be using f/16 with an UWA?
