hi all,i recently got a 70d and i decided i would give a 3rd party flash a try with my new toy,i got a good deal on a yognuno 560 iii,now i understand i should have read up more on its usage before getting it but it was a good buy at the time,i got it to work on camera in manual mode and off camera using my built in flash to trigger it,now my question is do i need a transmitter to send a signal so i can use it off camera without using my built in flash, the 560 iii has a built in receiver, using the flash menu in the 70d theres some settings for wireless channel etc but i couldn't get it to work, after reading on here it sounds like i need a 622 transmitter,do they sell the transmitter by itself with out a receiver as the flash has one already,is there any other options for the set up i have, thanx for any info, this site is great,

dave

I believe you need an rf-603: http://www.amazon.ca …61&sr=8-4&keywords=rf-603 (external link)

Don't think the 622c will fire the built-in receiver of the 560 iii, but I could be wrong.

Just a heads up there is a RF 603II out now and is said to be better than the original. They are also close to releasing a new trigger that will allow you to adjust the power of the 560iii from the trigger.

" .. do any cameras have built in transmitters if flashes have built in receivers .. "

Cameras (like your 70D) only have 'transmitters' in the sense of optical (light/IR mixed) tramsmitters ie their pop-up built-in flash - not radio (yet, anyway). But they can do Groups, ETTL, remotely adjusted M, SCS etc. Range may be limited by bouce/line of light considerations.

Some Speedlites have RF smarts built-in - see Phottix Mitros+ etc.

Specifically for the Yn 560 III, I agree with dedsen: Yn RF-603 Mark II or wait some more for a new version that offers Remotely adjusted M control as well as low latency triggering.

The link I provided was for a 603 II.

Do you have a source citing the new 622c-tx will allow remote power adjustment of the 560 iii? AFAIK, the 560 iii has a built-in 603 receiver in it, which is just a "dumb" receiver (trigger only, no ETTL, etc).

Consider that the current 622c will not even trigger the 603 and I'm even more convinced the new 622c-tx will not allow remote power adjustment of the 560 iii.

I agree.

Dedsen & I were referring to inside speculation from Elv concerning a new R trigger, quite separate from both the 622 line and the Canon RT clone line, that is expected to offer M & simple M remotely adjusted power fractions when used with Yn 560 IIIs.

Until then, the Yn 603 Mark IIs are the best match for 560 IIIs.

I see no mention of 622c-tx in my post. You seem to reading a lot into my post. I have not seen a model number assigned for the new device so far. Just discussion of its pending release.
