I was thinking of placing 2 fillable forms on my site. The first one would be the contract which includes payment terms etc and the second would be the details form i.e. date, time of wedding, address etc etc.

Any thoughts to the pros and cons of this?

Cheers

Do you not want to engage with and talk to your prospective clients first?

That is my preference but sometimes these folks are from out of town so having these forms online I think would be helpful or not

I also sit down with my clients when I can.

Perhaps you could have the forms as a pdf that they could download, print and fill out and bring
with them when you actually meet.

My first thought about forms they fill out via your web site is the amount of places you are going
to inadvertently leave for possible code injection.

Call me paranoid but it happens

I use a WordPress contact form plugin edited so I can collect details of the day. I meet with 90% of my brides but I take no notes during the meeting instead spend the time chatting with them. I find its more informal this way. If they ecidr they want to book m e the I send them my booking form. When they fill in my booking form and submit it the website then opens up a payment page where they can pay the deposit!! You can see how it works here - www.atl-photography.com/booking-form (external link) - It may not suit everyone but it works for me

How do you ensure they are legally binding?

We (@work) use PDF's for documents and drawing sign offs but we also have dedicated security tokens that know what login signed off and at what time date etc.

I've tried experimenting with this style of "Digital Signature" PDF but most clients PC's don't have such security tokens setup.

Sure I could make input boxes and have them type their name and date in, but is it legally binding? I've always been on the fence with this, so I usually have them print and mail it back with deposit.. but I wish I could switch to fully digital, way easier for keeping client records in workflow.

They print them off and write on them.

I believe electronically signed documents are legally binding now.

Personally I would not let them print and sign anything.

It is very easy to change any electronic document and I would not put it past a switched on customer to make some minor changes that could have serious impact on the terms. Unless you plan to read the documents they bring back with them word for word you are leaving yourself open.

By all means send them out a set of T&C's to review but if I were signing anyone up I would make sure that I filled out the necessary details on the form, printed it prior to the meeting and have them sign the copy that I have created.

Call me paranoid.

Yes, but the customer (at least a large number of them) doesn't have the infrastructure to electronically sign the forms.

So forms should be for printing and the customer posts or hands over a paper copy with a signature on. That saves lots of troubles later.
