Camera allows me to take 1 photo then Err 99 comes up tells me to turn power to to off and on again or re-install the battery. Do this and it repeats. Or if I just leave it the same happens. Then the screen is blank no image shown, however, there is a picture on the card.

I have searched on line and followed the advice to clean the contacts on the lens and camera, change to another lens, remove and charge the battery, change card all to no avail.

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

Error 99 is the general fault error so it could be any number of problems, including an issue with the lens, memory card, or something more sinister. Its probably time to have it checked out.

couple of things to test to at least narrow the issue down, firstly try shooting without a lens at all & see if error happens still.

If error still occurs, with lens still off, set camera to mirror lock-up mode, and try a test shot (needs shutter pressed twice - first to lock up the mirror, second to take the shot)

p.s welcome to the forums...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

is there a large black or white area on the recorded photo?
like others have said, it could be any number of things including a bad shutter

Try reformatting your SD card in camera. I had this happen to mine if I remember correctly.

Thanks for suggestions, unfortunately none of them have worked. The only one haven't tried is removing the small battery. No idea how to do this.
