So I just went ahead and bought a set of Manfrotto CarbonOne 3444 tripod legs and need a ballhead for it. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I want something that's nice and sturdy for my 6D. Also would be nice if it was AS compatible so I can get a Herringbone hand strap and use the plate from that on the ballhead. I don't know much about tripods so I don't know if that's something that can be changed just by getting a different clamp or not. I've heard good things about Horusbennu, Smith-Victor, and Triopo.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I like my Horrusbennu LX-5 a lot. It is just a little heavy.

Look at the Smith Victor line at B & H

That was my post.
Still got my RS3 and I am NOT selling it! If you can get used to the single lever control then this is all the ball head you (or I) need.

herringbone will work with the Horusbennu, I have it and they work together, but I dont use it, use the RRS L plate instead. The LX-5 is great, with the separate tightening and tensioner knobs, makes life a lot easier trying to level shots.

Would easily support your gear, as it does mine. I'm sure it would have no issues holding a heavier setup as well (held the 70-300 @300 in a pinch). About as offbalanced as you can get.

EDIT: btw, the horusbennu comes with plate, so you can skip the herringbone plate version. Plate has a strap for the herringbone, and it will work if needed.

Thanks for the help guys.

I decided to place an order for a horusbennu lx-5. For less than $80, it seemed like it made sense. Now to go get that herringbone!
