At least then she wont come back and ask you to give her basic training :P
I was a little worried about that. I remember other students blank looks when we got into aperture vs shutter when I was taking courses and that is just one part.

Knowing about a DSLR doesn't mean you'd know about every brand, every model, and which one to choose. But what do I know?. Some moments are too amazing to be ruined with words.

I would agree with the poster who mentioned the T3i, don't see the point in springing for the T5i, unless she's compelled to want the latest in that line. I own both lenses and I'd say for starting out, it was a fine pair. Thanks for the info about the lenses. I'll check and see what the T3i packages come with. I don't know anything about Rebel line. Totally agreed, but some people grasp that concep pretty quickly, some cannot. Ha. I already told her to stay away from the 75-300. I checked it out when I was looking in that range several years ago and wound up with the 70-300 non L. Nice lens. Image Editing OK

It is a bit soft at 300, but it makes for a nice, lightweight, and affordable EF telephoto zoom. Shelley

Maybe now that there's so many efs cameras, the tables have turned. Both EF and EF-S lenses of quality tend to hold their value well. Obviously kit lenses and starter lenses retain less value than some of the high end lenses, but quality EF-S lenses like the 17-55 2.8 IS holds its resale value quite well.
