Hey all,

Suddenly, after days of good work, my 5D MKII freezes during capturing video. De LCD shows a screen of death (see below) and I have to remove the battery to turn it off. The video is lost.

What can cause this?

  • The temperature in the room is only 19º C.
  • I use a Sandisk 90 mb/s CF card UDMA 6 and format it every time before shooting
  • I only record ±10 seconds per shot

Is it overheating, or a bad CF card? Or maybe something else?

Thanks for your help!

Apologies for sounding stupid but have you tried a different card?
Does it take still images?

Still images no problem, it only occurs when in capturing video.

I just borrowed another card from someone and for the moment it seems to work. The replacement is a lower quality CF card though. Is it possible for CF cards to die after a certain time?
