My wife's boss wants some prints with the name of the person pictured under the photo. White lettering on a black background. Have never added print to a picture before, is this possible in LR? Thanks

You can do a limited amount of text. A name under the photo is easy, but making it white on black would require creating it in another application and applying it as a graphic identity plate or watermark. For black on white select Photo Info and Custom Text and type in the name.

The black background you speak of - I'm assuming you are talking about adding that to the photo, and it's not part of the actual original picture? In which case, as Eli said, it won't be incredibly easy.

I guess my idea to add to the table would be to use the graduated filter tool and create some sort of black band at the bottom of an image, then sync it so that it clones itself on the other images. Next you could use the watermark editor and create a new watermark (which is white lettering by default) for each person and add it to the bottom, centered in the dark band.

Is there a Text Tool in Elements v.9? If so, that should work fine.

If LR supports Photoshop Plugins (.8bf), then this "Graphic Spell" plugin is an option: www.westbrookjazz.de/filter/f0.html (external link). Does exactly what you want and more, all in one go.
Also works with many other photo viewers/editors that support 8bf-Plugins

I forgot to mention: it is freeware (for non-commercial use)

I'd export the jpegs and then use FastStone's text tool.

There is a plug-in for Lightroom that has been used for a long time but I forget its name...?

Check out the LR/Mogrify 2 plug-in: http://blogs.adobe.com …er-8-1-now-available.html (external link)

One of the advantages of using this plug-in is that if you've already added the names of the subjects as keywords to your photos, you can use the token function in LR/Mogrify 2 to generate the text annotations automatically.

Ah, yes, Mogrify is the plug-in I was thinking about! A lot of folks here have found it very useful in extending things beyond the limits of Lightroom!
