Hello I am ready to move on from SmugMug and build a more professional looking photography website. Could someone suggestion a Professional Photographer Web hosting site.

And also since all my business cards are printed with the SmugMug site on it for now,
Would be possible to hyperlink from my SmugMug to my new site under I get new business card made?

I'm trying to build my site right now, and I'm using Squarespace.com. They seem pretty legit, and they're about $16 per month. Really easy to set up as well.

Why do you think SmugMug isn't professional? The basic template isn't that pro looking, but SmugMug is very customizable.

Sounds like you are looking for a pre-made template with a professional look. You can find these for most of the photography website hosting sites, but they will cost you some money up front. And you will still probably have a monthly fee of some sort.

If you want a custom template for SmugMug there are some options out there:

I did all the work on my SmugMug site for Three Guys Photography by myself, but some of the templates look pretty good.

There are lots of website options for complete custom sites. Just know the more custom the more $$$ it will cost.

Maybe the standard SM templates are a bit "non-professional", but you can customize it. I think the new SM is 10000% better than the old. For the record, my main site is a Wordpress site, but I do have a SM site (mike.imagesinthebackcountry.com). I customized my WP site then matched my WP to my SM site. I'm currently re-designing my site.

If you don't like SM, I might suggest using a Wordpress platform, and not the free (wordpress.org). If you have a domain, then you can self-host your Wordpress on your domain. This way you can use thousands of free (and paid) themes. Lots of great plugins too.

I use a wordpress based site running Photocrati theme. Tech support for Photocrati has been magnificent for me.

I think you might be giving a little too much credence to where you host.

Once you move on from the dedicated photo sites like SmugMug then it's all about the different services. We host on HostGator with a wordpress theme. You may find you miss some of the things that SmugMug makes easy, ecommerce and fulfillment for example.

Look at this. This is what I used and the few times I needed assistance John was more than helpful. Very easy and customizable. $10/yr for domain name plus $1.50.month for hosting is dirt cheap.

I have had a reseller account with Host Gator for several years now with no problems at all. I manage 15 sites. The few times that I call tech support they are outstanding. Wordpress is also great once you get past a small learning curve.

Are we photographers or webmasters?

Find a hosted solution you like and go with it. This business of mucking about with Wordpress and it's security issues and plugin incompatibilities and potential performance issues is silly.

Some of us are both, at least the knowledge of both to be dangerous. ;)

What security issues? Most of the issues I see are out-dated versions of WP/Themes/Plugins. Keep it current, use strong passwords and you should be good to go.

I use Weebly. It's awesome and very customisable as you even have access to the HTML/CSS code to play with if you want.

You can see my website which was constructed completely using Weebly in less than a day.
