This came out of nowhere the other day. I've been through just about everything I can think of to solve it through control panel.

I'm pretty sure the problem is with the screen itself or a connection between the computer and the screen (swivel connection...typical laptop).

The files aren't affected in any way whatsoever and no functions are affected. I'm very positive it's not in the computer itself but (as mentioned) in the relay to the screen or in the screen itself.

Anyone know what it could be and, more importantly, what I can do to fix it?

Note: When I hook up an additional monitor to the laptop the screen on the external monitor is perfectly normal (another indication that it's not the motherboard or anything in the computer.

Finally, the line does not show up on screen shots, further confirming that the computer has no idea this is happening and that it's in the wiring that leads to the screen or in the screen itself.

Thanks

Here's a picture I took with my iphone.

the screen is broken. nothing in terms of software will fix.

You will need to replace the entire panel.

Nothing to do with wires, power or signals. Its physical.

I figured it might be that. I can live with it. My old desktop is so old and dead that I'll just turn this laptop into a desktop for the next few months and see what happens. I'm not in the mood to spend any money.

Thank you for the feedback.

Well, either that or the video card is toast. Either way.....

That is not a video card problem, as stated, it is the panel

Yep the tape at the edge of the monitor is coming apart. You might be able to fix it or make it worse by pressing the monitor on the back and on either side.

+1
That's exactly what happens to mine while I attempt to replace dead backlight. I fixed the backlight but now there are vertical rainbow lines which disappear if I apply pressure (by squeezing it) to the panel. It's a bummer the replacement LCD costs almost $200. The laptop itself only costs $550, a cheap one. Not worth it.

I made it worse (just messing with it), but it doesn't matter. I hooked up a monitor to it and it's now a desktop. I don't need a laptop anyway. I use my Ipad for email, browsing, etc.
