in Rocky Mountain National Park. I like the black and white working better than anything I could get in color. It was taken last September around midday with thunderclouds moving in and the light was very flat. I just wondered if it works, or if I'm just confused.

Works for me! :)

As much time as I spend in RMNP each year, I see too many color compositions when there are so many more opportunities for a B+W composition!!!

I think you might have missed an opportunity for catching the reflection of the summit in the water, but it is still a great shot!

I used to almost live up there on the weekends back in the 1980's. I was in my late 30's, single, with no real prospects for that to change at the time. I fell in love with the park and spent a lot of time rambling around on medium to long day hikes, on and off trail. Loved Glacier Gorge, Loch Vale, and Mills, Jewel, Black Lakes and the tarns on the shelf above Black Lake. Also hit the Wild Basin regularly, made the 16 mile round trip to Bluebird lake a couple of times on day hikes.

This is an old one from the mid 80's, taken with my Minolta SRT-201 on Ektachrome. This is the old hermit's mine up high on Mt. Chapin above the Old Fall River Road. I climbed up the mountain from the little meadow where his cabin was and stumbled across the mine opening.

Nice! Between RMNP and countless other locations throughout Colorado, Utah, AZ and NM, I've put just over 63,000 miles on my truck in the last 2 years...

Given the planning I've already done for various photo shoot locations for 2014, I'm confident I'll be doing about the same annual average. Add to that a number of trips that require flying and you can bet I'll be neck deep in images by the end of the year! LOL

Here's an image from last Saturday (snowing constantly, not the greatest weather for photography. Kept trying to keep the lens / filter clean, but the dang wind kept shifting on me [go figure. lol].

Past Perspective:

Good shot, and one that would only work in B&W.
