^Gene, this bench shot is so wonderful in color, quality of light, and detail/texture. Any special magic in the processing?

Thanks. I did use one of the presets in Alien Skin Exposure 5 as a starting point for the color tones.

If I use an EF-S lens on my A7R and have the crop lens setting turned on in the camera does the camera produce a full res image or is it a smaller pixel dimension?

Im trying to work out the cheapest way I can use a canon mount 1:1 macro lens on my A7R

It'll be a smaller size than full rez. I tested my EF-S 17-55 on the Sony a7r and it works just fine. I haven't found the test shots I did with it offhand to tell you what the image size is though. I'll keep looking.

If you leave the setting on the camera to "auto", it will automatically crop for you whenever you use the EF-S lens.

Starting to contemplate adding an a7S to complement my a7R...even considering pairing the a7S with a FE 24-70mm (this thread's been pretty presuasive regarding that lens). Thoughts? I haven't done much video in a while, but the potential of shooting in 4K (external recorder) and snagging decent-resolution still frames from the video seems intriguing. The a7S looks especially impressive for video (other than not supporting internal 4K recording).

Of course I've also been mulling the impressive EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM too...isn't Sony going to be releasing their own FE 16-35mm soon?

Everything i have seen says the FE 24-70 shines on the A7s much more than the A7r (this says a lot). I would wait for the A7s to drop in price in the second hand market and the scoop one up.

Crop mode gives you a 15MP image on the A7r and a 10MP image on the A7.

A7: 3936 x 2624 = 10.3Mp

A7r: 4800 x 3200 = 15.3Mp

the a7s makes me want to get it and try video :P

I do want the a7s though because I tend to take a lot of pics in low light. indoors, outdoor night times.

you may have your otus.. but I have a 24-70. BAM!!

Cool shot of your FE lenses! I must say I love the Otus 55mm. Crazy expensive for sure, but I've never used any other photography gear that is as satisfying. I could be happy with nothing but an a7R and the Otus 55mm. :)

So, I need a 24-70 lens. I had been thinking to go with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM. But, one thought I've been considering is the notion that the a7S might overcome slowness of the FE 24-70 f/4 by the sheer brute force of shooting at a higher ISO; that the high-ISO performance of the a7S effectively turns the 24-70 f/4 into an f/2.8 (or better) lens from a shutter speed and noise/image quality standpoint. Does that make any sense or is it just wishful thinking? Probably.

thanks. hehe the otus is really something and I guess worth the $$$$ by the images it's produced.

this happen to be the other day. no force on my part or anything. tried to take the cap off from the lens/hood and it just pulled out the piece of hood with it. seeing calling Sony will get me a replacement. so ill give sony a call and see what can be done..

Thanks to you both. Im looking for a 1:1 macro lens but dont want to spend big bucks as its not something I would be into heavily, justy like the idea of having one for a bit of fun. Trying to weigh up my options for canon mount lenses

 It makes sense to me. When i had the A7s my thought was exactly that. That the slow speed zooms would not matter since the high iso of the A7s would overcome that

I agree. Beyond that I would think the only negative might be the less shallow depth of field shooting wide open with an f4 lens vs an f2.8 or faster lens.
