Vinz nice shots as always. For me the sony will have to wait, I just bought the fuji xt1 along with their 35mm f1.4. Will see how well it compared to my dSLR before I dig deeper in FF mirrorless. I wish sony had nice lens roadmap like fuji (maybe they do, I just don't know).

Mine has arrived :D

Going to test shoot some tonight, but I have one concern. For Metabones users, how tightly does your adapter attach to the camera. While mine is not as wobbly as in this YouTube video example (external link), there is a slight rotational play between the camera and the adapter. There is absolutely no movement between the lens and the adapter - though as I had anticipated, it is tighter than attaching it to my 5DII or 5DIII.

Does your Metabones adapter attach to the camera just as tightly as it does to your lens? Should I expect slight movement between adapter and the camera? While there is FAQ on Metabones site regarding loosening the fit between the lens and the adapter, there is nothing regarding camera to adapter fit adjustment.

Well I'll be, the fault lie not in the adapter but the lens mount of A7R itself. I received 3 more adapters I ordered but they all wobbled just the same. Then I saw a fellow A7S shooter with a FE55 and we got talking. I asked him a favor and if I could try his lens for a fit while he tried my Metabones + TS-E. The native E-mount lens on mine wobbled while the Metabones was a nice tight fit with no movement on his A7S.
I called Sony and they will gladly perform warranty repair. Here are some more info regarding A7R loose lens mount, in case if you encounter something similar.

First, the shutter vibration and now loose lens mount, but don't get me wrong: I am amazed at what this little wonder could do and hence it is going to repairs and coming back better than ever.

Any tip on how to manually focus in the dark using EVF when there is no easy reference (in this case, telephone pole)? Even when I ramped up the ISO and zoom, only things I could see on the screen were noises.

you can turn off the liveview display and turn your Eviewfinder to act like an optical viewfinder.

under the gear menu>submenu 2

Excellent work. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. Shifting is easy. It's understanding tilting that will take a little bit more time to make it second nature. Have to be up early for a 105 mile road race training ride tomorrow so don't have time to load up my shots from today. Will showcase tomorrow :)

This doesn't turn off the LCD though it just makes it blank. There is no power savings and the EVF doesn't behave like an optical viewfinder in dark conditions at all. Firstly because the a7R always has the lens stopped down, a DSLR will leave the aperture wide open to keep the viewfinder and AF system feed with plenty of light until you hit the shutter button. This means the camera doesn't have enough ISO at say f16 and night conditions to let you see what's going to be in your photo.
So I would advise opening the aperture, focusing and composing, and then stopping down.

the A7 definitely has electronic aperture, the same way it is with canon. It will focus wide open, and stop down on shutter release.

on a related to topic note, finding the nifty fifty and vivitar 135 make a nice lightweight kit. Optics wise, the 135L still kicks ass, but damn vivitar and nifty bring decent optics and stupidly light.

something else that took me all this time to figure..... AUTOISO in manual mode with exposure compensation.......

Don't let the xt1 put you off the sony. Completely different beasts. Xt1 iq is lacking IMO even compared to my 5d2

I never considered sony FE lenses prior to purchase of A7r or A7s (I did with the A6000)...I knew ahead of time I was going Metabones and Canon glass. That said, I am waiting for Sony to bring out the 16-35 F4 in FE mount..I'd be all over that. I do have some FE lenses, the kit 28-70, the 70-200 (used almost solely on the A6000) and a Rokinon 14mm in e-mount.
