The a7R does not behave this way, at least not with native e mount lenses. The aperture may be electronically controlled, but it's always stopped down during live view and autofocus. ukaskew wrote in post #17125932 Traded my FE55 in for a Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART. Lucky you, the canon mount Sigma 35mm Art refuses to autofocus on the metabone adaptor for me. Fortunately however, it features a nice focus ring and is pretty easy to use with focus peaking. well by A7, I mean A7r as well. So you're saying native E lenses will stop down before they fire? Must be a screwed up setting (the viewfinder would be unusable in many scenarios). Sigma 35art+metabones gets you instant AF? It's a7 + LA-EA4 + Alpha Mount Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART. AF is as good as unnoticeable, just locks instantly and silently. My flickr

It was my first outing with the lens and first time trying manual focus on my A7R and the keeper rate is down about 20% Im using high peaking and red. My shutter speeds were all 1/800 or faster. When I adjust the focus ring and it looks like the peaking is on the face the resulting shot is OOF. When I did nail it they were tack sharp but im having trouble getting a higher keeper rate. This is when the subject is about 10m away. Any advice? Do you use focus magnifier? practice practice practice. DOF is fairly thin with that lens, and you have to be careful of the blinkies. I just got through shooting with the vivitar 135F2.8, and while not as thin DOF, it's still surprisingly thin. Fairly high keeper rate for my kids swim class. Completely different beasts. Xt1 iq is lacking IMO even compared to my 5d2 I don't like shooting ISO6400 as most shots suck in bad light anyways. Right now for me it is AF and I am not seeing much sony native glass. I could be totally wrong in that regard. I was able to pick xt1 and 35mm f1.4 for $1350 and it gets me into mirrorless to try out. With Sony it was going to be $1000 more for min. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm
