navydoc Cream of the Crop More info | I hope you'll forgive the filthy camera...and the fact that this image was shot using my Canon 5D3 but I wanted to show what my new Fotodiox lens hood looks like on the Sony 35mm f2.8 lens. I learned about this hood while watching their video regarding the 'tough E mount' lens mount replacement for the original metal/plastic mount. I think the hood looks great and fits well. Unfortunately, since the Sony lens cap fits the small opening of the (stupid) Sony hood, the cap won't work when using the Fotodiox hood. I try to think of the Sony hood/cap as a single unit and swap hoods when I want the lens cap back on. Sony a7r and 35mm f2.8 lens Gene - My Photo Gallery ||

I wont touch it. try this Gene http://www.bhphotovideo.com …F49S_49mm_Front_Lens.html edit: just looked at picture again, does that hood use up the filter thread? Thanks DT. The original lens cap is very small and only fits on the small end of the Sony hood. I'll have to double check what that dimension is. The Fotodiox hood is a bayonet type and fits the same as the Sony hood. Gene - My Photo Gallery ||

Very satisfied so far. I was terrified of dropping my screwdriver into the sensor the whole time though. ![]() you could have done it upside down mounted on a tripod with the camera sensor pointed down Sony A7siii/A7iv/ZV-1 - FE 24/1.4 - SY 24/2.8 - FE 35/2.8 - FE 50/1.8 - FE 85/1.8 - F 600/5.6 - CZ 100-300 - Tamron 17-28/2.8 - 28-75/2.8 - 28-200 RXD

Screwing them back in, though, I'm not sure having the camera upsidedown would be "a lot safer" for me. My concern there is that while it would be less likely to damage the sensor by dropping the tool, it raises the likelihood of a serious mistake because I would be in an awkward position where that awkwardness produces less control over my tool. It takes quite a bit of force on the screw to screw them tight (or getting them unscrewed), the tripod would have to be weighted down with sandbags. The screwdriver could slip off the screw and get inadvertantly thrust upward into the sensor (since screwing them in would require that upward force). It would also heighten the possibility of losing a screw. A lost screw is less horrible than a scratched sensor, but still no fun. David | Flickr
