hope they'll do that to the next A7R. I don't care if they put low pass AA filter.

@Puckman: I'm a bit confused. Some people call you Dean while others call you Nadim. Which one is correct? -?

My given name is Nadim (Lebanese originally). I go by Dean to a lot of folks. It was originally a bastardization of a shorter version of my name "Nadeem" became "Deem" to many who didn't quite get it when I introduced myself (I speak rather softly), which in turn became "Dean". I found it easier to let it be and over time it kinda stuck.
That should clear up the confusion, i hope :)

Thanks for your info Lucas. That should help me determine what to get next time. Maybe an A7S II is still far from even a rumor. I want that IBIS. Maybe I will end up with A7II. The little AF PDAF advantage, IBIS, a more quiet shutter, and the new shutter location is what I'm looking for.

A7II should make you happy. Shutter button and sound are much better IMO, and most importantly the IBIS is huge (since I use manual lenses that are now all stabilized). I almost never go above ISO 200. I don't shoot dark rooms, bars, etc (I've seen Lucas' stuff and the A7S makes perfect sense for him). For me, I like being able to shoot a legacy 135mm manual lens at 1/30s handheld at ISO 200 and still get perfectly sharp shots (and yes, I have done that and am not exagerating).

At least until they announce an A7R2 or A7S2, I think the A7II brings everything I need for the near future.
I still have my 6D and have no plans of getting rid of it. Anytime I absolutely NEED AF, i can fall back on that. Honestly, PDAF or not, I don't trust the Sony AF system much so far. If it tells you something, I had NEVER shot manually before 2 weeks ago when I first got my A7II. Now I NEVER turn on AF. I don't feel I need it at all.

Now if I didn't have the 6D and HAD to make due with only one camera and needed to shoot weddings or similar to make a living, that would be a different story.

Both shot with the A7II + EF16-35/f4L IS and a Haida ND1000 filter.

Other than the obvious rolling shutter issues in some fluorescent conditions and fast-moving subjects have you been able to quantify or discern a real image degradation with the silent shutter? I get fantastic results on silent shutter on my a7S...can't imagine what I might be missing. I guess I need to do some pixel-peeping side-by-side comparisons to see what the degradation is.

And I keep wondering if using the silent shutter adds longevity, since camera longevity is typically measured in mechanical shutter actuations. Any thoughts on that?

I've been using silent shutter on my newly acquired a7s for a few days. I love it, but I also realized that I can't use the picture settinga (PP1-PP7). I shoot in RAW, so I know I can adjust things in Lightroom...

... but since I'm experiencing with video also, I learned that the setting for s-log2 (PP7), has the most dynamic range (and less noise?), especially in the blacks.

I don't know if these settings affects stills or not, and definitely don't know if it RAW files. PP is turned off when Silent Shutter is enabled.

Again, I'm just learning about this. Can someone confirm the info?

Beautiful shots!! I just don't see why you would ever sell that EF 16-35mm f/4L.

Thanks David.
I don't either. Honestly, it's the only one of my Canon lenses that I'm attached to. It's also the only one that's gotten any use since I got the Sony.
One would argue that it's too big and bulky compared to the rest of my kit. And I try not to take it along with me on all outings, now that I have the CV15 and the FD24.
But it's been my go-to landscape lens for so long now (since the day they came out, basically) that I know exactly where to point it, where to focus it and how to dial it in for my landscape work. I can't see myself selling it just yet.

I'm not sure the Zeiss 21mm ZE can be compared to anything. It is all one could ask for in a wide at that angle.

I got my FE 28mm f2 today, so stoked! I was so upset because the shipping tracker said it wouldn't be here until next Friday... amazing how off it can be, but this time it was for the better :)

Well we had luck with the weather the last day, perfect to try out my CV15. After a first outing im really amazed by the quality it delivers on the A7R. Its also very interesting to use as it is so easy to get the subjects sharp. F8/f11 and focus to 1m and youre good to go. I must say the 15mm focal length is really significatnly wider than 16mm on my 16-35. I already love that lens as i somehow feel it is sharper in the edges than the 16-35 sony at 16mm but has more CA than the sony.

Gonna post some shots tonight!
