You guys are giving me Sony GAS so bad I can't stand it. I have a bunch of legacy lenses of various types just screaming at me, they don't all work well with my Canon DSLR.

Have you given them a try? I honestly don't think my a7S is that much better with manual glass than my 6D was. It can make it a little bit faster I suppose and it's far nicer for shooting at lower angles and stuff and of course significantly lighter, but as far as accuracy and general use go, I did just fine with my 6D.

This was the first time I'd seen a 3D printer in person, pretty cool tech

Another fine photograph. I have to say I'm a bit envious of the volume of photogenic local scenery at your disposal.

I am interested in the a6000 and the a7 ii. My Canon legacy lenses don't work well with Canon dslr. And the focus assist seems like a good thing. I don't get focus confirmation with all of the manual lenses with my Canon.

I think they would both suit different purposes for me.

The focus assists are nice if your subject is a little low on contrast, but honestly don't make that big of a difference for me most of the time compared to shooting with my old 6D and EG-S matte focusing screen. I'm not trying to turn you away from the Sony's, they're fantastic cameras, I'm just saying that with a different focus screen and some practice focusing on a DSLR isn't that much harder.

Seriously! You have some nice landscape around you, David. Those are all gorgeous!
So you get the Zeiss 21/2.8 with in kind of mount? (sorry if it's a dumb question, not familiar with those lenses).

Thank you! My wife and I were discussing last night - on the walk - how with much practice my ability to see has much improved. In the past I would go on walks like this and fail to find an interesting composition.

Thank you! Golf courses are kind of a landscape photography cheat; they're everywhere and they frequently look nice. :p

The Zeiss 21mm is in a Canon-mount. It is also available in Nikon-mount, but I prefer Canon-mount lenses because I get better lens EXIF support via the adapter. Sadly all Nikon to E-mount adapters are dumb and do not pass lens EXIF data to the camera. This lens famously has a complex mustache distortion to it, so it is nice to be able to correct that easily with a lens profile in LR.

Wow! Thats amazing, great work! That lens seems crazy sharp!

Here some pics from my first outing with the CV15 III. I really like how the colors render and how sharp the image overall is!

Both of these shots look great. I really like the expanded dynamic range they show.

Thank you. Well it was more a playing around rather than serious shooting but i like them quite good so far.

Yeah i also like the dynamic range considered thats one shot each. ISO400 on the A7R (which is where most DR is available) and a correct exposure really helped. It was quite hard to get the right exposure to not overexpose the sun and clouds AND keeping the details on the foreground. With the Canon 6D it wouldve been impossible id say, for the second scene at least.

Agreed; those are excellent David!
I would love to hear your assessment comparing the sharpness to the FE 16-35mm. From all the images I have seen from this lens it has a very nice rendering to it.

I'm glad to see the CV15 getting some love. I too have been very happy with it.
Don't have the FE16-35 to compare to, but I think it renders beautifully and compares very well with my EF16-35/4. Only downsides to it are the heavy vignetting and a bit of under exposure and the fact that I have to buy a specific 58mm ND filter if I want to do long exposures (fixed hood means no step up rings to my standard 77mm ND).
This is why all my waterfall shots ended up shot w the 16-35.

Thanks. Im still unsure which lens is sharper, but judging from my first shots is that the CV15 has an advantage due to the fact that it has a half stop less maximum aperture which lets me close the aperture more before diffraction shows up. Id say the FE lens is sharper center to mid-edge while corners are a little (really just a little) mushy. The CV15 is very sharp, although not as sharp in the center, but holds up very well across the entire frame. Yes id even say the corners are better on the 15mm. But still have to test it out some more

Jup. I also think at 4.5 it is more like f5 and the vignetting at f4.5 is making it even darker. But hey its 15mm at that small size! I would also rather like a removable hood but i think of those two lenses in a different way. To me the 16-35 really is the allrounder for city trips in modern citys and architecture. Also OSS makes it a tad more versatile. Having IBIS on my A7R and A7S would improve greatly the versatility of the CV15. But i think of it more as a compact travel companion. When i really do not intend to make a photo trip i still can be covered, having the CV15 and CV40 on both my sonys makes for a very minimal, yet very versatile setup for my shooting style.

Whats certainly clear is that both the FE 16-35 and the CV15 are playing in a very high league.

Agreed. I don't think the CV15 is a replacement for a 16-35. For one, that extra 1mm makes a rather good difference on the wide end. And secondly, it also makes it a bit of a one trick pony (in a good way). If I were to compare it to another lens, I'd say it sort of should be compared to the Samyang 14mm.
In any case, it really is all about compactness and wide angle, as you said.
I don't even use it at 4.5. Mine's basically permanently set at f11 (f8 is good too) and focused at about 1m.
Even at f11, vignetting is pretty serious though. But it's easy enough to fix.
