Lovely.

Thanks! And I am likewise very much enjoying you Portland series!

David, really nice shots you've posted using your Zeiss lens.

Messing around with my Canon 16-35L and some real estate shots of my house for practice.

Used the HDR merge feature in LR CC. I usually use LR Enfuse but I liked the job that Lightroom HDR merge did.

Thank you!
Looks like you have a nice house Alfredo...the LR merge looks good. I am having good success with it as well with my a7R and a7S. It's making HDR so quick, easy, and natural looking that it is having a big impact on how I shoot. HDR used to be a more serious process for me (tripod, just the right scene, etc.), but now I am doing handheld -3, 0, +3 bracketed shooting quite frequently and LR is doing a great job aligning every blade of grass even though the camera is moving slightly between the three brackets. Cool stuff imo. :)

I'm happy to have my kids healthy again. The little one had orbital cellulitis, and if you google it, you'll see how serious it is. Had two doctors suggest surgery, while one did not, a child specialist..... then after a few days, even that child specialist thought surgery was needed, and transferred my daughter to a children's hospital full of specialists. Eventually, the IV antibiotics kicked in, and took care of the whole mess.

I'm curious how you manage the handheld bracketing though. That's something I can see myself using quite frequently. Any tips/tricks? You just try to point at the same spot and shoot in quick succession?

Yeah, it's cool. 8-) Use one of the continuous bracket presets. The one I have been using is "BRK C 3.0 EV3". When you take the picture continuously hold the shutter button down until all three exposures have been taken in rapid succession.

The main thing to watch for is making sure the over-exposed bracket has a fast-enough shutter speed for a sharp handheld shot. On my a7S I'll leverage its high ISO prowess and shoot the brackets in auto-ISO mode. But, on your a7 II you have IBIS which is even better! Another useful tip is to shift your brackets down a stop or two via Exposure Compensation. That keeps shutter speeds fast and works better for capturing the full range of a sunset sky.

In LR I am finding it is doing an amazing job of ghost reduction - seems even better than Photomatix - so you can shoot HDR brackets with people in the shot (set ghost reduction on maximum).

Give it a try! :)

+1. Charlie, it is a relief to read that all is better now. Orbital cellulitus sounds scary.

Charlie- good to hear that your daughter is OK.

My eldest son had a complication from a hernia repair when he was one. It could have been a serious (life threatening issue), but thankfully my wife is a nurse and was able to catch it early. It was scary none the less. Would not wish that on my worst enemy.

Nice captures!!

I had been wondering how the 70-400mm did on the a7; looks super sharp with excellent contrast and vibrance.

I agree. Thanks for sharing those photos. This combination is certainly something to consider for long lens work.
