No, I know what you mean Im just messing around. But in all honestly, Sigma knows that their new optics will be much better than the old Sigma, so they probably ramped down production of the old while the new is being manufactured.

Supposedly the 50mm Art is due in April. You can't 6 to 8 weeks? You do have a 24-105 so its not like you can't shoot at 50mm. Personally I'd rather the newer lens and its dock compatibility.

Actually there seem to be plenty of what you want on eBay in excellent condition. One new open box is at http://www.ebay.com …enses&hash=item338b3a49dd (external link).

I'm just saying they took a very popular lens offline 2 months before the replacement is due out. Now used are selling for more than MSRP, it seems like they could have done better for themselves. But no biggie, I'll go Canon this time. Both are good lenses, I would have gone Sigma first. Decision made! ;)

Not really. If they kept producing the old version, they would likely end up with stock that wouldn't move very fast, and lose money on it.

People who want the Sigma 50 would normally have done at least a bit of research (very few people go and buy a 3rd party lens that is more expensive than OEM without doing some research), and would have come across mentions of the Art version.

Those people will probably then have read that the Art version will, most likely, breeze past the current 50 1.4's in optical performance, and since it is coming out shortly, they will most likely have decided to wait. So if Sigma were to keep producing and shipping the old version, they would just be sitting on the shelves collecting dust.

If you aren't interested in having an optically great 50 1.4, and are content with merely decent (which is what the Canon 50 is, I have owned it and gladly got rid of it), then go right ahead and get the lens which is available right now. However, if you want what will be a better lens, then wait a couple of months.

They don't, but the few used ones I have found on Ebay and the like have been very expensive as the lens is not available new and they can jack up the price.

Adorama will let me buy it and say they will be getting it back. But like I said, I'm going to go Canon for now. I can get the Canon new $340 shipped, or a good used Sigma for $400+

Good choice, when the new Sigma is finally released it will most likely be more than double that price not including the dock.

This is all moot now as I bit the bullet. $339 for the Canon new from an authorized dealer. Done.

I really do like the Sigma. I had a 30mm 1.4 on my T4i and loved the creamy bokeh it produced. From test shots I've seen this lens has similar bokeh. But the Canon is good too and I couldn't convince myself to spend over MSRP to get used, with no warranty with a lens that might have focus issues.

Yes, there are some low priced lenses that are currently being bid on, but if you look at the sold listings, good lenses from good vendors were going for over $400.

I was a little leary of waiting for the new lens. For one I want a fast walk around lens now, as I have some traveling coming up. Also, who knows how much Sigma is going to charge. I'm guessing at least $800 which is more than I want to spend. And I'm not a big fan of buying stuff right when it comes out. I will go with old dependable for now, and if this new lens kicks ass then I may consider it in the future.

I think you're going to like the Canon 50 f1.4, it definitely is one of my favorite lens in the Canon lineup for its price vs performance ratio. Mine is sharp as a tack even wide open and I'm hoping my new Nikon 50 f1.4 performs as well on my D800.
