I got it today, so finally I can shot in raw. Never use it before but I use other programs before:acdsee. adobe 2.0, photo10 impact pro. By far this is better. Tomorrow I buy the book and read up on it. LIKE IT!

I highly recommend Scott Kelby's PS CS2 for Digital Photographers. I just bought it couple of weeks ago and really enjoying it. All the tricks and tips on photo editing are invaluable.

A second recommendation for Scot Kelby's books. If his CS2 one is anything like the Photoshop Elements one that I have, it will be excellent. He just tells you how to correct and spruce-up your photos. Most of the other books spend two or more chapters explaining what a digital camera is, what a printer is etc.

Personally, I've learned a huge amount from Richard Lynch's book "The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements" version x.x. It might not suit all, but I learn better from the combination of theory and practice than just following "recipies" or sequences of instructions: especially since my experience is that sequences of instructions usually miss out critical bits. If you have the theory, you can recover from this. If you're just following orders, well,...

I have PS CS2 and use it. But I often find myself using PSE 3, RL's tools, and actions I've built for myself in PS CS2 and imported into PSE. Sure, for some tricky bits, I use PS CS2 - but then for other things I find myself using PSE 2. (If Adobe is watching, BTW, I'm fully licensed for all of the above.)

Maybe I'm weird, but I'll use whatever tool is most appropriate for the task, no matter where it comes from. (And, of course, I'm lazy: why learn a new tool if you already know exactly how to get the job done with an old tool in next to no time.)

...Mike

---really: even if you don't use it, RL's "Hidden Power" stuff is excellent:

Last week I received a very good Photoshop training DVD, Mastering Color by Ben Willmore, http://www.digitalmastery.com/dvd/ (external link).

On it is two hours of excellent information related to color editing in Photoshop. Like curves, color replacement, using layers, converting to B&W and some features of Photoshop I was not aware, like Variations. Also on the DVD are the photos used in the training DVD.

It is especially good to beginners who are looking for Photoshop editing techniques.

I got the Scott Kelby's PS CS2 for Digital Photographers and I think is great. Lot to learn. But it is fun to learn new things and being able to use them. So far so good.

One of the forum members (Robert Lay IIRC) wrote a tutorial on RAW processing in PS. You should read that.
