Hi All,

I am new to this sub-forum, I have some photos that I shot in 15m Raw and I am doing the post processing now. What I am not sure of is the size, long edge, pixels that I should be using. I want the pictures to come out nicely with enough pixels.

I am looking for a guide as to what settings I should be using for the various sizes.

thanks in advance.

Camera: Canon 500D, f1.8 50mm, kit lens, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC, 430EX flash, Remote control,Tripod, Cleaning kit.

A4 is roughly 8.27" x 11.69 so at 300PPI you'd need a minimum of 2481 x 3507 to get a clean magazine style print. I would provide 2500 x 3535 to be safe...in fact to be safest I would just provide the maximum resolution your camera offers and just crop for A4 aspect ratio which is 1:1.414 or 1:1.42 (height is width x 1.42) and let the printer do the resizing...

Thanks for the reply, really appreciated.
I have some photos which will mainly be viewed on a screen, I exported by LR5 using 1024 and long edge. I think i set the resolution to 200 or so, my client then got back to me saying that can I supply the photos in high resolution.

Can anyone please give me an idea of what sort of size to use if the photos are mainly going to be viewed on screen.

Thanks in advance.

Well, it depends on what screen. The most common screen size nowadays is 1080x1920 pixels, but there are lots of higher resolution monitors available - Retina and similar laptop screens that are as much as 1800x2880 and lots of monitors at 2160x3840. If the client wants high resolution, I would give him all the pixels that came out of the camera.

What "size" you deliver to your client is really between you and your client, and depends on the intended use of the images.

You say 1024 pixels may be too "small"...the 1024 resolution is "safe" for most modern monitors because their display resolutions tend to be higher, but it's really up to you and the needs of your client!

I told you, 3500~ on the long side. 1024 is not high-res today.
