Stina and Joayne -- Thanks for the kind words.

Stina -- I really enjoy your shot of your son being curious. I like the comp and the soft lighting and the expression.

Joayne -- I also enjoy your shot of the rainbow. And I'm intrigued by the landscaping on your street. I learned about xeriscaping only recently, and it interests me a lot. The street plantings look pretty mature in your pic. How long has your street or community been xeriscaping? Has it been encouraged by the municipality? If so, how?

Wow Joayne. I missed seeing this one of yours. Very, very nice. The colors are just great. Oh man, you have such nice light. Been to busy plowing snow the last couple of days to even think about picking up my camera. No nice light here. This was a great week for pics here.:):)

Barbara.. That type of landscaping has been popular for as long as I have been coming to the desert. It just gets too hot in the summer to work outside on your landscaping. I'm one of the last with a lawn. It is a summer lawn. Brown all winter, but green as can be in summer. :p.

As far as the mature plants, the cactus at the yellow house were planted 3 years ago. They had lawn...it took 3 seasons to kill the old grass. They redid the watering system, laid down black plastic..poked holes and planted the shrubs and cactus..then covered it all with colored gravel/sand...

Thanks for the info, Joayne. Do you water your summer lawn?

Everything has to be watered in the summer.
We hit temps regularly @ 115 degrees with nights at 95 degrees.
It isn't just the lawn that gets water.. the system includes plants and trees with the lawn.
Some people water 2x per day.. but we are on an aquifer that is not part of the Los Angeles water.
In fact we ship water to Los Angeles..
