Hey guys, I'm learning FCPX and have practically no experience editing audio. I was wondering if someone would be willing to listen to this audio and give me some suggestions on how to make it better.

Some background on the audio. Recorded from the sound board with a single 1/4" plug coming out of it (all the sound guy had to give me) into my Tascam DR-40. So in FCP I changed it from "stereo" to "dual mono" because only the left channel was recorded.

It was also not loud enough, so I have increased volume to +12 (as high as it goes) and also the Audio Analysis told me to increase the Loudness as well (it's at 65%, uniformity 6%).

Background Noise Removal is also turned on.

I wanted to add a little reverb, so the Medium Room effect is applied with preset "Smaller Darker Room".

Finally I set the Equalization under Audio Enhancements to "Treble Reduce" because it sounded the best of the available presets.

As you can hear, though, when his voice gets louder the audio does not sound good/clean. So does anyone know audio and FCPX well enough to tell me how to make it sound better?

I hate to say it, but it's hard to create great audio from a low level recording.

It is kind of like taking an underexposed image and trying to get a bright sharp image out of it. You are going to have to make some compromises.

I don't know FCPx, but I would look for some compression settings which might help on the louder sections.
