Example" If you have 8 lenses, all valuable for certain tasks: wide angle, portrait, macro, but you don't use three of them. Then why have them? If you have a macro lens, you never use it, but you want one available should you decide to shoot macro, then that's great. You have the right tool for the job, and it can sit on a shelf collecting dust until you desire to use it. See abbove questions and deciede. Good luck. opinions change. My brother's second L lens was the 100L. He really wanted to get into macro for food photography....... then lost his interest. I've been feeding my GAS for a few years now and dont know when it will end Sony A7siii/A7iv/ZV-1 - FE 24/1.4 - SY 24/2.8 - FE 35/2.8 - FE 50/1.8 - FE 85/1.8 - F 600/5.6 - CZ 100-300 - Tamron 17-28/2.8 - 28-75/2.8 - 28-200 RXD

Feb 25, 2014 23:16 | #39 There is another thread that recently came up about what you would do when the time comes that you need that ONE lens for that 5% of the time. My answer there was that I usually buy the lens because that way I always have the option to take the shot if the time comes. I realize that you can't take all your lenses with you and that (for me) is where the fun comes in. When I venture out now, I know I will have 1 to 3 lenses with me and I will shoot my best using only those lenses. Sometimes it may be the 400mm DO and a 100mm Macro. Or maybe the 8-15L Fisheye and the 40mm pancake. That is where you can start to challange yourself if you feel like you have too many lenses. I think the 17-40L, 70-200L, and the 300L are currently my least used lenses. Two of them I use so little and have upgraded/replaced that I don't need them anymore and am getting rid of them. If you really feel that you don't want a lens sitting around, sell it or trade it. 5D4 | 8-15L | 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS | 24L II | 40mm pancake | 100L IS | 70-200mm f/2.8L IS mk2 | 400mm f/4 DO IS

Specialized tools. The secret is to figure out what each one is best at, good for. Then the number you use will only be limited by your style/tastes. GEAR LIST

And what's wrong in using lenses for fun? Keep all of them and enjoy yourself, otherwise you'll find yourself wanting more in the future. David
