And what's wrong in using lenses for fun? Keep all of them and enjoy yourself, otherwise you'll find yourself wanting more in the future.

radical concept, eh?

I have 4 lenses, and I think that is too many. My 70-200 f/4 doesn't get used all that much since I tend to shoot more at the wider end. However, I can't see myself parting ways with it unless I really need the money.

Lenses are nothing more then tools in your tool bag. In my opinion, it is a very good thing to have the right tool for the job. I have 15 lenses and don't regret owning this many...not even one bit!

I have a crop for that :-)

Me too! And with the Tamron 150-600mm it gets out there!
Still would like longer at times.....I know greed is bad. :D

I worked hard on building my kit to where it is now. Mid last year I swapped to the 6D from the 7D and there for a long time I only had the 24-70/70-200 and the 35. This worked for me for a good while then Christmas hit and I realized I needed longer primes for low light.

I got into a frenzy and bought the 14mm, 85, 135 and rebought my pancake that I had sold before.

Now I have 8 lenses and I question if it's too many. Like some lenses will sit alot in my bag not getting used anymore. Pretty easy choice when I limited myself to the 3.

Does anyone else get this way?

My 135 is kinda redundant and only have it from a trade. I have no issues getting rid of it but it's light and fun. 85 is invaluable just as the 35 is. 14 and 8 are toy lenses for me meaning they serve no purpose other than me taking photos for the fun of it.

Unless you are putting bread on your table through photography, all your lenses are just for fun. If you are not having fun with a lens, sell it rather than just collect it. If you have fun with all your gear, keep it. What else is there to say?

for me, it's more principle. I hate having stuff that is unused. I dont like the idea of having expensive toys sitting around.... I can afford it, but dont like being wasteful. It's like buying a sports car and parking it in the garage (I dont drive often).

What them, use them, can afford them, I do not see the issue on amount of lens.

hmmm... now that i made the jump to FF... my ef-s lenses don't get used...

10-22mm, 18-55 kit, 17-55 2.8 is sit in my bag with my 7D and 40D... but they are my back-ups if I shoot an event.

my 24-105, 70-200, 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 are my go to lenses... I have a 70-300 that has rarely been used since I got my 70-200.

I do have a 35 f2 is on the way too... once I get a 16-35 2.8 or a 17-40, i could possibly sell my 10-22... or i could sell all my efs lenses, the 7d and the 40d, and maybe be able to pick up a 6d as back-up, and just use the 24-105 on one camera, and 70-200 on the other... so many paths.. so many options... :P

I will keep everything I buy. My plan is to give it all to my kids when I pass. Its a hobby that we share and I know it will mean more to them to have something that we shared instead of me getting money for a lens I don't use.

When I have sufficient ambient light to play with, then a 24-70L, 70-200 2.8L II, and 50L get put into my bag.

When I know I'll be in darker places I'll grab the 35 Sig/50L/85L

If I were you I would choose between your Sigma 85mm & 135L. Two portrait primes + 70-200 f/2.8 is a bit too much.

I currently have four lenses but could do without the macro. I just need to add a 400mm 5.6 (sold my 150-500 to upgrade). If I had the money, I would easily do with just a 400 2.8 IS, 70-200 2.8 IS II and a 24 1.4 L. Those three lenses would be perfect for my needs (and wants, of course) :D Even if I had the money, however, I would not purchase the 400 2.8 IS I any time soon due to the fact I would do it injustice with my lack of skill and attendance to sports events. I think a 1d Mk IV would come before a 24mm 1.4 L, so until then, I will have fun shooting with my current fantastic which definitely does not let me down :D
