Hey all. Going to the comic con in a couple of weeks. Been doing some reading and i think i have my lens setup.

70-200 is 2.8 and 50 1.4

I wont be carrying around my lowepro back pack because i think it may be a bit crowded. I want the ability to zoom and also have a lens for a quick 3/4 body shot of costumes/cosplay....

I think these are good lens choices. What do u guys think?

You might want to consider a fast wide zoom or prime for photographing the dressed up attendees, etc. You should also consider taking a small flash too.

The most useful lens will be an 18-55mm. One those lenses generated these images under the conditions you will face.

You will learn that a longer lens will be less useful because of limited space.

As important as the lens will be a Canon EX-series flash, especially one of the units powered by at least four AA cells. You probably will need several spare sets of batteries.

^ 18-55 won't be too useful with a 5D III.

I'll admit the error and advance the discussion with examples from a lens more suitable for a full frame camera, the Canon 24-105mm f/4 L. (external link)

These sample images were harvested from a Facebook upload, and therefor should be considered only a general guide to the framing possible from the lens.

Again, since these images were stored and compressed by Facebook, they should be considered only example if the sort of framing possible indoors at close range from a full frame camera. It'll be interesting to see any other examples or samples from potentially useful lenses for the stated purpose.

Do you remember the zoom length you were at when taking these? I can get a 3/4 body shot holding the camera portrait and not being to far away from the subject with my 50mm. I think having that lens and the 70 - 200 would be perfect.

Scroll down a past the first two lines, and everything onwards is 85mm on FF.

It was a pretty busy environment - but I was determined to make it work :)
