This pair are as close to being part of my backyard as one can have in an apartment complex. The power poles around us are scheduled to be removed and the lines put underground so I will not have any wires and poles near me much longer. It will be a nice vision upgrade I think.

I saw this pair Sunday morning also, pictures taken Monday. The female almost knocked the male off of the pole when she landed.

Great stuff John. No poles no Kestrels? I only say that because they seem to love to perch atop those things.

Thanks Craig. I fear that may be. We do have some large trees near by and other poles that are next scheduled to be removed for a while yet.

I don't know where the nest is if there is one yet. I will definitely need to figure that out.

kestrels nest in holes and even in protected/enclosed corners of sheds. They also will use nest boxes. The nest site is probably close. Do some Internet research about nest box size. If the wood power poles have woodpecker holes, that could be where they are nesting.
