Might sound odd, but a friend of mine has asked me to take a photo of a concrete wall for a project that he is doing.

So far so good.

I'll first have to find a concrete wall, shouldn't be a problem, I'm thinking a motorway underpass (is this the right word?), at least here in Sweden these are made of concrete...if I can find one without graffiti on it that is.

Hoping to find a place good enough with an even light.
Since I think that I will not be able to light it my self in a good way...

Thinking about focal lenght (using my 5D MKIII), I'm thinking as with portraits, to shoot with a focal lenght that will not distort the lins/proportions.
Will my 50mm be enough?

Any other thoughts, ideas etc?

You might want to ask your friend what it is he wants exactly. Suggestions for technique are only possible when the desired outcome is known.

He is going to use it to print a wallpaper, so I know what he wants and what he is going to use it for, my questions are more about how will I get the best results for this?

Be very careful and aware of passing cars (at high speed).
I'd probably get a ticket for this over here.

I was more thinking of an underpass for pedestrians... (maybe the wrong word for it then?)..where the cars are on top and pedestrians walk underneith...

Something like this:

Best lens, stopped down, lowest ISO, tripod.

plus off camera flash, you got a static subject, easy to get your light the way you want. frontal for no texture, side for texture and fall off. plus the IQ will go up up up.

When you say wallpaper, you mean as in actually hanging on a wall? If so, you have to consider the distance and focal length necessary to produce the texture in a realistic size once printed to wall-sized dimensions. Find out the final dimensions of the wallpaper and then shoot an equivalent size section of concrete.
