I am happy that you enjoy your lens. I, in contradistinction, am using a crop (7d) - though. I think there are many who would be happy with the 100-400 on the crop as well. Just trying to get some perspective. Thanks!

There's something about the way the 100-400 plays with the 7D. It's an amazing combination.

Every now and then I consider selling off the 100-400 and picking up the 70-200/2.8 II as I only use the long end occasionally. Then I shot it for a little while and the images make me smile and any thoughts of selling it go away.

I am not familiar with the Tammy as I've had my 100-400 for quite some time and the Tammy is, as you know, new.

Is the canon 100-400 still relevant?

rel·e·vant
adjective
bearing upon or connected with the matter in hand; pertinent

So my question for the OP is, relevant for (or to) what?

Relevancy has to do with "the matter at hand", so I need to know what matter you have in mind when you ask if the 100-400 is still relevant.

For instance, the 100-400mm lens is relevant to wildlife photography, because it is connected to wildlife photography. It is not relevant to woodworking, because it is not connected to woodworking, and has no bearing upon that discipline. It is relevant to motorsports photography. It is not relevant to cardboard recycling. Etc, etc, etc.

So, OP, what did you want to know if the 100-400mm was relevant to?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

That's why I had wanted Tamron to aim for a $2000 lens, and made their darndest to make this the best lens they could manage.

You're right, Mike. That's what I see them using, along with the 800mm prime.
