for indoor studio, correct me if I am wrong, you would mainly use from f5.6 - f8.0 or even f11.00 anyways. 50 1.8mm II or 40mm 2.8 would be good enough.

You would stop down, I routinely shoot at f8-F11 at ISO 100 with studio lights, perhaps a bit less if you have a speedlite setup. But the noisy wonky focus on the 50 1.8 II is a non starter.

The discontinued 28-105 f/3.5-f/4.5 USM II is a very capable studio portrait lens. It was tack sharp, blazing fast to focus and stopped down a bit between the 40mm to 85mm focal lengths produced some of my favorite photos with that lens. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I had that lens back. I was fortunate enough to be able to find a still new one a couple of years ago for around $175 - $200.
