Hi Guys,

My existing camera is 400D and I am thinking of buying 70D but before I get there, I just want to check if I can use my existing lenses EF-S on the 70D mount ?

Someone told me I can't. But I thought the mount on Canon for all models should be same?
Thanks in advance for advising.

Cheers
Rakesh

Yes it is a crop camera.

There are 3 mounts. EF which only full frame cameras can. EF-s which crop cameras can use along with the EF mount lenses. And EF-m which only the EOS M uses. The M can use the other mounts also.

EF-S lens will definitely mount to a 70D, the EF-S lenses are made for crop sensors, which is what the 70D is, so you're all good.

It's not whether the camera has a crop sensor or not.. It's whether the camera is designed to take an EF-S lens.. All the modern crop sensor cameras (including the 70D) can accept EF-s lenses, but there are older model crop cameras (like the 10D) that can't.

They were wrong for this question, but not completely wrong. EF-S lenses won't work on full frame bodies.

Perhaps I misunderstand your meaning, but some might interpret this as saying only full frame cameras will accept EF lenses.

This should probably be qualified to state APS-C crop cameras.

You'd be doing yourself a big favor if you studied details of the Canon EF-S lens mount. (external link)
