My MagMods came in Monday and I've been having a blast of a time playing with them. Scott Kelby did a quick video on them here: Scott Kelby on MagMod (external link)

And you can see their website here: http://www.magnetmod.com/ (external link)

Basically, they're silicone rubber modifiers that attach to the flash with really strong rare-earth magnets. I've been using one on my SB-800 on-camera (while waiting for my Cheetah V-850's to get here!), primarily to gel the flash to match the ugly industrial flourescents we use here on the ship. So far, they've worked out really nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they come up with. (A bounce/softbox is rumored!)

As a bonus, the grip-band also means that the Rogue Flashbenders stay put a LOT better. Nice.

- this isn't intended as a review, just a 'cool new toys' post that I hadn't seen mentioned yet!

PS: If you have any questions, would like to see any photos, etc, etc, please let me know. I'd be happy to help. I'm going to pop some shots this weekend with the grids to demonstrate how it effects the light spread, but other than that I'm all ears.

Edit; I am not in any way affiliated with MagMod, just one of the Kickstarter backers for the project! I do think they're a great product and I use them all the time now.

The grid casting looks to be rather thick, noticeably thicker compared to other speedlight grids I've seen, which tends to indicate that there's probably some accompanying light loss. I'd be interested in seeing some meter readings between the Magmod grids and other makes of grids.

Hmm, I'll see what I can do on that one. I'll admit some of my stuff got instantly donated as soon as these came in as they are simply THAT convenient. I'll grab the meter and see what the difference is between gridded/bare.

I have the MagMod kit and Honl and Rogue grids. Just doing some quick shots around the house, they appear to have the same intensity of light, but the MagMods are much easier to use than the others.
While you can stack Honls and Rouge grids, they are not as easy and quick as the MagMods.

I could be wrong, but it almost feels like a sales pitch.

Doesn't sound like it to me. Just someone posting up something new.

But I got mine as well. Had mine for a few weeks to do a review.

There *is* someone on this site that's friends with those guys, but not the OP.

@1Kind: How long until your review/thoughts are together for this one?

Been playing with it. Unfortunately, I'm doing renovations and my desktop with my software is disconnected until my work area is fixed. Hopefully next month.

Definitely innovative. Ease of use can't get any easier and very secure. But feel free to ask questions.
