Activities Between the Golden Hours

I'm just curious as to what people here shoot (or do) between the golden hours, especially when you've traveled a few hours and are there from sunrise to sunset. Mainly the hours between say 10 and 3. Lunch can only go on so long. Do you shoot macro? Keep shooting landscapes anyway? Read? Tune-out? Drive into town? Scout for the perfect sunset spot? Other?

I tend to scout locations. also this is my wife's shopping when we travel.

Scouting/hiking/nappin​g/driving/shooting if it's daylight and shooting the stars if it's night. Don't rule out the daytime as a good time to take photo's though.

Depends on where I am and what I am doing. If I am on a planned photography trip, I will have scouted / researched locations to hike and shoot that favor daytime shooting. Sometimes I'll find locations that favor B+W composition, to add B+W shots to my portfolio.

Google Earth, TPE and PhotoTransit are my primary research & planning tools.

Yep.

But usually I'm drinking beer in the shade somewhere, or taking a nap, or in town getting supplies or lunch.

Thanks all. I do have to push a bit more in "unfavored" light and B/W may be a more interesting way to go about it since colors are muted.

Pete, before I throw my money down how do you honestly like PhotoTransit? For $9 I need to ask, but I like tools that are true to the description especially photo apps which I own a few including TPE.

Read, scout, eat, find birds, etc

All of the activities mentioned so far in this thread make into my midday program on one day or another, but these are the two that I do the most.

I shoot photos, no matter the hour. Some of my favorite shots come during midday.
Maybe I'm biased because they're my photos.

shoot infra-red...

i live in dubai . here weather is not as great as in europe . only free time i have is on fridays and i go for shooting at beach .
here we find ideal time is about 15 to 5 minutes before actual sunrise (for clear sky) and may be 10 minutes more if sun is covered with
clouds. so we spend 3 hours driving to shoot for only very brief period of may be about 5 to 10 minutes. then drive back takes 3 more
hours. total of 6 hours. when arrive home i sleep. when wake up process the picture.

The last one was, I mentioning that I waited there until later in the day. So yes, it was. The old house was taken at about 10 am a few weeks back. The house just had a nice patina to it. Not exactly high noon, but far from golden hour.
