I was hoping someone could guide me tweak a custom setting (C3) for HDR on a 7D. I've had one set up for some time and it's worked ok. It brackets as it should and on a 2 second timer after I press the button. Now I'd like to tweak it with a couple second delay in between shots to allow the mirror slap to rest. How do I set up this delay?

Does the 7d have MLU?

Yeah, just set up the shot and lock the mirror up, then you don't get any mirror slap. I don't know of any way to get it to pause a couple of seconds between shots, when using AEB.

On the 5d and 5dII, you enable MLU with AEB and the 2 sec timer. Press the shutter release and the sequence of three shots is taken after the timer countdown. In between each shot, the MLU will be active, so the mirror will flip up, the camera will "wait" and then the shutter will open.

If you use MLU manually (with no timer) then you press the shutter release once to flip up the mirror and then press again to release the shutter (so you control the "pause"). This sort of defeats he benefit of MLU because you have to touch the camera again to release the shutter.

I have not used a 7d, so I apologize if this does not apply to the 7d. Also, you may get a similR benefit from shooting within Live View, as the mirror is locked up in LV mode.

Thanks for the tips Kirk.

The 7D seems to be setup the same as the 5D and 5D2 as far as what you've mentioned. This is what I just figured out, the mirror can be set to lock-up and stay up during the bracketed shots, but you must manually snap each bracket until all three have been shot. This gives you an unlimited amount of time to wait for the camera to calm between shots. I would use my wireless cable release if I go this route and give it a second or so between each shot.

BTW, LV completely ignores bracketing only allowing single exposures. If you attempt this it will temporarily wipe out your set bracket info (custom setting) until you flip off and then on the camera.

I also have TriggerTrap that I may mess with a bit more to see if that can help out with this.

Does the 5DIII allow time in between? Just looking ahead.

You may want to check out the 7d implementation of magic Lantern.

I believe the Promote control permits you to specify the delay as well, but it is an expensive device.

Thanks again. ML kind of freaks me out as the disclaimer says it could damage your camera. This is the only DSLR body I have and can't risk it. This issue isn't that important. I was just wondering if it could be done. If I use a cable release it'll almost accomplish the same, no slap and bracket all 3.

I also thought a work around would be if "Review Time" could be implemented between each of the bracketed shots, then I could set it to 2, 4 or 8 sec. I haven't found a way to make that work though.

Promote Control is a great option, yet $$ tight right now. When I see a great deal I may go for it.

It's interesting how all this digging lately has shown me the 7D's limitations and strengths. Maybe by the time a 5DIV comes out I'll be able to justify the cost.
