Sometimes the only thing I can remember about a picture is that I did some work on it. But I can't find a way to filter the lightroom catalog, by edited/developed. Is this possible?

(Yes I should do some keywording.)

The simplest method is to create a Smart Collection.

(1) Go to the Collections Panel on the left side of the Library Module (you may have to expand the panel by clicking on the arrowhead to the left of the "Collections" title).

(2) You can either click on the plus (+) sign or right-click on the Smart Collections folder and select "Create Smart Collection..."

(3) Name the Smart Collection whatever you prefer, in my example I named it Unedited Photos.

(4) Now you'll create a rule to collect all the unedited photos.

Change the drop-down boxes to "Develop > Has Adjustments" and "Is False"

(5) Click the Save button and you'll now have a Smart Collection with all the photos that haven't yet been edited. Now simply by clicking on that Smart Collection you will immediately see a group of your unedited photos; as you edit them the count will decrease since the Smart Collection will automatically recognize edited photos and exclude them.

I don't think there is (but I could be wrong about that though). For me, I give every edited image a star rating (even if its only 1 star) that way I can go back later and mess with the ones that need some tweaking.

Nevermind See the above response...

Thank you pixelmagic. Though what I'm looking for is "Adjustments Is True". This will work perfectly.

The two filters I find most useful in smart filter are

  • Edit Date and
  • Metadata Status.

My wisdom is learned from the experience of others.

If you have the filmstrip visible, there are little black-and-white badges on the filmstrip thumbnails, for images with Keywords, Crop, Develop adjustments, and ... seems like one or two more things.
The Keywords badge looks like a Best Buy tag; the Crop badge looks like the crop grid; the Develop adjustments badge looks like an Exposure icon (the little plus-minus).

(Yes I should do some keywording.)

If you add Keywords (names - places - events) during Import, you can do a Text Search using the Library Filter in the Library Module. Keywords can also added in the Library Module; Globally by selecting a group of images or Locally by selecting a single image. To add Keywords to an entire folder, highlight the entire folder (Ctrl+A). To add Keywords to a single image file, just highlight that image file. After adding the Keywords, save the updated information (Ctrl+S) before moving on. Keywords make doing Text Searches a very powerful tool.

Information can also be added to the IPTC Metadata in the same manner. Creating IPTC Metadata Templates & Import Presets in the Import Module will speed adding some types of information up to a single click. Most of the Metadata can be edited in the Library Module the same way as the Keywords... Globally or Locally.

Presets are very powerful time saving devices in all of the Lightroom Modules.

Ok Awesome this really helped. The answer I'm going to use is a metadat column called, "Develop Preset" and selecting "Custom" I get all photo's that I've done something to. Thanks for pointing this feature out.

And what if you haven't used a preset but made some other adjustments?

I haven't tried using presets yet, so all my adjustments are other. That's why I'm using "Custom" as the preset it is listing everything I've made changes to in the develop module.
