I watched Matt Kloskowski's course on Neutral Density and he mentioned that he uses NDTimer to easily make adjustments for his long exposure images. iTunes has this and several others listed. Does anyone here use one?

Thanks,

Jerry

I've collected a number of these apps over the years. Right now on my iPhone I have four of them. Here is a little summary:

LE Calculator. Nice interface with dark and light options. Its counter shows the actual seconds being counted down. Unfortunately, the timer lacks an alarm sound. It makes the phone vibrate instead. Nice app if you don't care about hearing the alarm.

LongTime. I never use it because it lacks a timer button (it merely provides the new exposure time, so then you have to time it with some other method).

NDCalc. This was the first one that I ever used, and it remains my go-to app for shooting long exposures. It has a nice, easy-to-read and functional interface, has an alarm sound, and resets the timer button after each use so you can use it again. It would be better if it showed the actual seconds counting down instead of a simple progress bar.

NDTimer. It's the only one of the four that calculates stacked filters. I dislike the white interface and small type, however. Also, once you use the timer, the button to start it again goes away. In order to get the button back, you have to change a setting in the app and then change it back to what you were using.

Thanks Phrasikleia. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I also clicked the link to your website and that was WAY better than reading your answers. Your photography work is amazing. I am sure that there are years of experience showing there, but also think that you spent a lot of time getting to where you wanted to be to capture those images. Excellent quality.

Thanks very much for your kind words, Jerry! :) I'm glad that you found the app info helpful.

Heya,

I just meter the scene at my desired aperture, get the right shutter time that way. Then I add my stops of my filters, and adjust my shutter time by that many stops. Same exposure, basically, but with more time in there. If you set your interface on the camera to operate in full stops instead of 3rds or half-stops, it's super easy without an app or any extra devices.

Very best,
