amazing,i don't think I would be able to keep a steady hand watching these incredible creatures

It is not the steady hand that is a problem but the rocking boat :) but, yes, it is very exciting.

Thanks, Maureen. We got 100 or so near misses the last time we were out.

Try, try, try again......:D

Terrific shots Maureen, and a great experience to boot! You did the 5D3 proud :D .

Thanks, Ian. The lighting wasn't always where I needed it but that is nature. I had a mountain of fun tho.:D

Maureen, couldn't you just do M and frame as you will? I also don't know how the 5D works also.

5DIII + 300mm f/4 with a 1.4 Canon teleconverter. We go out with Pacific Whale Foundation whom we buy a 10 trip raft pass from. The passes go on sale in October for 4 weeks & cost about $375 per person. If you just want one whale watch trip, the raft is $58 or the bigger boats are $39.

Peak whale season is Feb. & March.

It just all happens too fast. No one really gets that first breach; usually we get a chance if they repeat breach but sometimes they go down, change direction & come up somewhere else. Always a crapshoot out there.

Lyle, I know we are missing out every day we are not there :) but keep the photos coming for me, okay? In a few weeks there will be humpbacks, California grays & Orca at the coast for all summer & Great Blues in August. You can bet I will be out there as often as possible :)

Hi Maureen, will you get to Maui this Feb, or have your circumstances prevented it this year?

We had to cancel this year, Ian. But we will do a few extra trips over to Monterrey bay to make up for it & Maui will still be there next year.;-)a

Last time I was in CA was three years ago, did the Monterey Bay whale watching trip - wrong time of year, saw nothing except blue sky and sea -?
