I know this should probably go in market watch,
but B&H has a 50 f1.0 for sale at $4400.00.

Boy you just don't see those very often

I think the average "selling" price on the 1.0 is about $4000-$4400.

So you may need to wait another year or two to see the price go up (if it goes up).

Heya,

Too expensive to play with 1.0 aperture.

No way to repair really either, except with other parts that are also expensive, plus the skill or cost of having someone repair if something goes wrong.

Get a 1.2 aperture lens for a 4th of the cost.

Novelty.

Very best,

I remember seeing one a few years ago for $2300. I really wish I had the money at the time...

Yep, or just buy $4400 in Starbucks stock and sell for a 20% profit in a year. I'd never buy a $4000 lens as an investment.

Must be a relief for you to get that statement off your chest. ;)

With how the economy's going, that 20% profit won't even keep up with inflation.

Really. Inflation has been running under 2% for quite some time. I don't see it changing anytime soon.

For you Canadians perhaps. Uncle Sam's been printing so much money and putting it into circulation, the future is uncertain.

Neither does the market, 5 year bonds are sub 1.5% and 30 year bonds are sub 3.6%.

I can understand your feelings considering the high cost of your particular area, but it is barely 2% in most other places in the U.S. Even though we got hit hard in the Midwest, many things are still a relative bargain (especially housing and auto insurance).

Looks like Europe might be the place to go to pick up this rare gem for "cheap" from those who don't know its street value.
