yup, first time shooting from the pier. My 70-200+1.4 seems a bit short still for shore shooting. I am working to find a 2x that I can trade so i have the local shop on the lookout for me. Also still trying to find the proper sharpness on the TCs when you still have to crop is proving to be a problem. I got some good tips though that I am going to try out tonight if I get out fo work on time.

I think that it's because the different parts of the car are moving in different directions (or at different speeds, probably more accurately put) relative to the off-center position of the camera, as it passes by. This effect becomes more apparent the closer the car is to the camera position:

Nice explanation and example of panning. Something I wasn't aware of before your post. :)

Suggestions welcome.

Yeah. I've given up on surf shooting with the 70-200 (no TC). As soon as I get a longer lens, though...

Still going through my older stuff and slowly re-processing.

If anyone has a TC or a lens longer than 200 they're willing to let me try, I'd love to meet up for NSSA on Sat morning. :)

You got a good spot for shooting planes near the LBC airport? I'd like to give that a shot at some point.

There are actually quite a few depending on the time of day. Over by the AAA office or by the Devry and Epson buildings off of Killroy Airport. This the beginning of the runway so room to see them land. At the end of the runway can be nice (northside) and then there is the boeing parking lot where this was taken Right by the C-17 building. This is at the west side of the end of the runway.

There is of course fencing all around so you have to either get above the fences or shoot through them. Many people just sit on top of their vans and are high enough. There is nothing elevated like at LAX so you gotta take what you can get.

...The Pelican Cove spot that I hit up with Dave last time is freely accessible, so at the very least, we could end up there for the sunset, if it's near by (not sure where the caves are, relative to it).

Let's make it happen! As Pat would say, I want to GO OUT AND SHOOT!

rezcar wrote in post #16906458 (external link)
Dave, those are the only ones I've heard about. Probably pretty small? I'm thinking sunset would be better for that location due to the direction of the opening.

Howdy Guys,

Saturday is open for me. Sunset at Pelican Cove would be possible. I re-read the sign and it says that we have 1hr after sunset for the parking lot.

I'm guessing that The Terranea Resort parking doesn't close early either ;). It's also a lot easier of a hike! I might sneak by there tomorrow for addition reconnaissance :D

Yeah. Way too hot. I sat poolside and watched that sunset, LOL.

Saturday and Sunday both look good for me. Dave, thx for the reconnaissance. We'll just have to decide which spots to hit up, looks like.

Did some pseudo-product photography tonight. First time doing that. Let me know what you think.
