Very nice, Butch. I need to get out to the Huntington Library again soon. Last time, I was still a rookie who didn't know what I was doing...
Sidebar question: How do you remember the exact set up for your various shots? I often see you mentioning the CPL or the Big Stopper or both in your description. I guess the Big Stopper should be easy to remember by looking at the water, LOL, but otherwise, I've always been curious about people who list out exactly the conditions and set up for a shot (I barely remember what I was doing earlier this morning!).

Good stuff, Fricks. First time seeing you post in here for awhile.

Yeah I've been pretty busy the last couple months. Yesterday was the first time I've went out to shoot in forever.

Dang I knew it looked good down there today

It was so good. I could only stay for a hour but it was so worth it.

It's a mental note, Dean... After many MANY usages of various densities of filters, I could remember 99% of what I used on that particular scenery...

Considering a kendo 1.4x myself. But not sure how well it works with the 100-400. I think I lose manual focus. Anyone know for sure?

I'll get back to you on this!

The 1.4x TC does up your max aperture by a stop, so when fully extended your 400 f/5.6 becomes f/8. So with the prosumer bodies then yes, you lose AF.

I don't know about how all the Canon bodies have moved with this. Back a few years I got the 1D3 because, among other things it could AF at f/8 so I was happy using it with the 100-400 and the 1.4x TC (in fact, I still have the Kenko from back then).

Well, in recent years I needed to downsize, and among other things I sold the 1D3, but I still have the 100-400...

I do use that combo occasionally with my 30D, but you still don't get AF with either of my bodies. So I'll set it up for some shots, where I can MF and get a shot, but that won't work well with subjects in motion!:)

Hey Dean, I like the processing of your first one better. Looks like you are enjoying your new lens. :D

To the best of my knowledge, the only Canon camera other than the 1D series that can autofocus using the 100-400 at 400mm + 1.4 extender is the 5D3. That was added to the cameras abilities with the last firmware update.
