The bridge is not always the place to go to shoot. Most of my shots are about a 20 min hike to where the good stuff is.

You also can't just go anytime there and expect some good subject matter. It is a lot like surfing where conditions play into it. The tide, the wind and the right time of year/day all play into getting good shots.

These were all taken with a bare 400, so reach is not a problem at some of the "other" locations.

These are outstanding. It was my first time there last night, so I didn't go exploring too far, and I was on limited time. Next time, I'll have to wander in a bit further.

That arch rock at Corona Del Mar. You guys seem to be shooting it from the opposite side that I'm used to going to.
I usually shoot this stuff:

What's the exposure/duration on that, Charlie? (Your Flickr isn't showing the EXIF).

that's because the images are stacked ;)

40 images, 20+ minutes for the "starry night", 20 images, 10+ minutes for the "scoping out the stars". Used the magic lantern as an intervalometer.

images are stacked using startrails software: http://www.startrails.de/ (external link)

actually, I did not.

"griffith observatory wide angle" was shot at the same time, I just left my tripod on the grass field since hardly anyone walks off the trail, and went for other long exposures with my sock bean bag on top of my backpack, or other stationary objects as a tripod.

Was shooting with two bodies ;)

Heh. I went out and shot some birds at lunch too. Some park near work. Mostly ducks and geese. Every single shot was soft or completely OOF.
Apparently lunch-shooting is fail today for everyone.
